ABOUT THE COURSE
The Travel Sketch Workshop is a five part, intensive online course that will cover the different ways to sketch, paint and create moments and visual records in your sketchbook whenever and wherever you travel.
Participants will study how to use different media, including brush, pen, watercolor and ink to approach a range of subjects that one could encounter on their voyages. We will look at why keeping a sketchbook is so worthwhile and is a healthy practice for anyone, from experienced artists to complete beginners. The workshop will also focus on different ways to make the most of your travel sketches such as capturing a sense of place, depicting people quickly and rendering difficult urban environments.
This workshop will be a way for you to help you make personal, evocative sketches to create a range of memories that you will always be meaningful long after your travels.
If you have ever been curious at all about creating your own visual record of the places you go through drawings, sketches and paintings, then this is the workshop for you.
The recordings are from the live online workshop that ran in April 2023. The unedited videos and accompanying course Padlet feature the art, conversations and feedback of each recorded class session in full.

Testimonials
"Jun-Pierre is masterful. It is rare to find an instructor who excels at both his craft as well as a strong passion to teach what he knows in such a motivating and comfortable way. He genuinely honors the varied interests and advances the varied skills levels of each participant. He presents interesting techniques and relevant information in a way that makes art accessible and motivating. His kindness and generosity put me at ease immediately. I am a more comfortable and confident artist because of him."
-Michelle G.
“I learned about washes, creating a sense of depth, tonal range and textural marks. I learned the basics of drawing figures that actually resembled human beings and how perspective works. I learned about some of the possibilities of brush pens and ink, which I have had for a long time but never really exploited or explored. I loved seeing sample pages from carnets de voyage because I have been keeping journals and travel journals forever, which have become increasingly visual and less textual. The examples gave me lots of ideas for integrating them more effectively.”
-Merle G.
"I have signed up for multiple online painting tutorials with some nominal success. When I found Jun and took his live online class my drawing/painting skills improved more rapidly. Having the live classes, interacting with like minded artists is what makes Jun’s classes work and you will see improvement in your art practice. I can’t wait to taking another class with Jun."
-Sheila A.
"Jun is a remarkable teacher, bringing to everything he teaches a breadth of knowledge that meets each student where they are. Whether you are a beginner or seasoned painter he is always able to challenge and encourage and teach to any question that emerges, taking the time to demonstrate technique, construction of an image and beautifully illustrate and underline the necessary skills needed for painting with watercolor and ink."
-Cassie B.
"It's a wonderful class, and not for nothing Jun-Pierre's students keep coming back for more. His explanations are clear and concise; his answers to questions are thoughtful, patient, and knowledgeable; his demos are a joy to watch; and his critique is always constructive and never feels like criticism. He designs a strong curriculum and sticks to it, so you get exactly what you paid for...It was totally worth it, and I will be going back for more."
-Olga G.
“I am still amazed by the idea that it is possible for a complete beginner like I was (I never painted nor drew before) to learn to get confident with the watercolour and drawing within such a short period.
I give this course my best recommendations.”
—Jona Joensen
"Jun is not only an excellent artist, but also an insightful person and instructor. He can make the most out of different personalities from around the world, so they work full time in and outdoors, as if they just enjoy life through their brushstrokes, no matter how mature these strokes can be."
-Eleni Roufani https://www.facebook.com/eroufan
"Despite my inexperience, Jun was always calm, patient and willing to lend gentle criticism or suggestions. Our workshop family was full of wonderful, supportive people and I know we all learned a lot from each other.
-Lydia Rhyne
" Jun's inspiring and motivating summer workshop which combines studio practice and painting trips to different places on such a beautiful island gave me a powerful head start in pursuing my studies in painting."
-Nausicaa Papathanasiou
"Jun's a fabulous artist, a fabulous draftsman and a fabulous tesacher (and a great guy too). He guided us step by step through the watercolor techniques. He teaches in a crips clear, well-structured, methodical way. His classes are packed with information, knowledge and inside tips, everything adjusted to the level and demands of the individual student, and at the same time they are great fun. Jun's always going the extra mile and super generous in sharing his skills and experience."
